As promised, some photos of my contribution to the fairytale monster swap. My version of Aladdin’s genie. Complete with magic carpet and some bling.
Pattern: Dot the Dress Up Monster by Rebecca Danger
Yarn: Scraps of wool of the andes, cascade 220 and vanna’s choice. Matt made the jewelry adornments with copper coloured wire. Isn’t he clever?
Mods: Used the Jerry the Musical Monkey pattern for the ears, added hair
It all started with this concept sketch…
I hope my partner liked it, I sure had fun making him!
When I first got back into knitting I discovered Ravelry, which is a wonderful social networking and yarn porn site for knitters and crocheters. In addition to thousands of patterns and yarns and projects, Ravelry also has discussion boards focused around different things, for example yarn stores, magazines, independed dyers, designers, etc. One of the groups that I have been involved in for a while is DangerCrafts, a fan site for the designer Rebecca Danger. Rebecca is a designer of the most wonderful toys including the monkey I posted yesterday.
Every season the group hosts a swap in which we each send a package to another person. This spring the theme was Fairytales. I was super excited that this theme was chosen as I love mythology, fairytales and wonderous stories. I had a great time putting together a package and will post pictures as soon as I know it was safely received (I don’t want to ruin any surprises!).
Today my package arrived and I love it! The theme is Alice and Wonderland, one of my all time favourite stories. Every time I recieve a package I am amazed at the generosity and creativity of my fellow knitters. So a million thanks, swap partner! You totally made my day 🙂
The Cheshire Cat!
A project journal made with scraps from all different fairytales
The inside of the journal has places to put a swatch, and give information about a project. It has wonderful illustrations posted inside from Alice in Wonderland.
Hello to blog friends new and old!
I am excited to have a new blog home at wordpress after a hiatus from blogging. In case you are new here, I used to blog over at Adventures of a Nervous Knitter. I’m hoping that nervous knitter knits will be the start of something more than a blog, but as a place to launch some new things, including my own patterns over the coming months. Please join me as I blog about my love of knitting, fibre, life in Toronto and who knows what else! Please also feel free to check me out on Ravelry, where I am sleepyinsomniac, or on Pinterest where I pin as nervousknitter.
First, a couple of FO that I have not blogged about during my internet break. This cute guy was my entry into a teacozy competition at my LYS and part time workplace, Passionknit, this spring! Details below.
Pattern: Snail Tea Cozy by Anke Klemper
Yarn: Malabrigo Rios in Arco Iris held double with Diamond Luxury Fine Merino Superwash DK in Light Lime, and Diamond Luxury Fine Merino Superwash Aran in Light Purple for the chain stitch detail. Leftovers of Wool of the Andes for eyestalks and pipe cleaners for structure.
Even better, I stashbusted the remaining Malabrigo and DL Aran leftovers to make this:
Pattern: Jerry the Musical Monkey by Rebecca Danger
The snail has been living in the shop window for a few months but he is coming home this week. I think he needs a good name. Any suggestions?
